Q: How do I replace items in my kit?
A: Easy please go to silkoilofmorocco.com
Q: Can I wear gel polish on very short nails and/ or toenails?
A: Yes you can, it is important that you prep the nail well and get full coverage over the natural nail so that all sides and edges are covered.
Q: Can I wear red or dark colours on short nails?
A: Yes, of course. We recommend you wear the colours that you like and enjoy wearing. You are unique so why not paint your nails to suit.
Q: Does wearing gel polish damage my natural nails?
A: No providing you follow the instructions and remove old gel polish no longer than a month after application.
Q: How long will my gel polish last on my natural nails?
A: 2-3 weeks is the general time frame however it depends on how fast your nail grows and how hard you are on your nails during that time.
Q: Can I wear gel polish on my acrylic nails?
A: Yes it wears very well as there is no natural oils in acrylics. However removal requires either filing it off or the use of a nail drill (we recommend you seek a professional for this service). On natural nails it is removed using acetone, however this cannot be used on acrylics as it will damage the finer edges and effect the wear and life of your acrylic nails.
Q: How long will my gel polish last on my acrylic nails?
A: It will last without problems for the duration between refills which is normally 2-4 weeks depending on how fast your nail grows and how hard you are on your nails.
Q: How will I know when I should remove my gel polish?
A: When they are chipped or have grown out from the cuticle end of your nail or it has been on for one month.
Q: Is there a limit to how long I can wear my gel polish?
A: Yes, always remove gel polish from your nails and toenails within one month of application to avoid damage to the nail plate due to chemical degradation from air and sunlight - this applies to regular polish also. Leaving it on for prolonged periods of time can create white marks and lifting between the layers of natural nail.
Q: Can I put on too many coats of gel polish?
A: Yes, too many layers can make your gel polish prone to lifting and chipping prematurely. With too many coats it becomes rigid and has very limited flexibility to last through day to day wear and tear.
Q: Can I just refill the area where the gel polish has grown out? (the cuticle end of the nail)
A: Yes, however it is difficult to get a flush finish between the old and new polish, as well the finish might not be as smooth as a new coat would be.
Q: Can I apply another coat a week later?
A: Yes, however if you have any chipping along the free edge (very end of your nail) you will need to paint in those spots first, cure and then apply a full coat and cure. The finish might not be as smooth as a new coat would be.
Q: How many nails worth of gel polish is in each pen?
A: Approximately 250 nails in each pen.
Q: Is my Silk Gel Nail Polish Kit enough for me to run it as a business or to add to my existing business?
A: Yes, there is all you need in the kit to get started and extra items are available for purchase when needed. Q: How long will my gel dispenser pens last?
A: 24 months Shelf life and 18 months from opening
Q: Can I go back to wearing just my natural nails after wearing gel polish?
A: Yes, we recommend you follow the instructions while using your gel polish, this way you will minimise damage to the natural nail plate. Use your 7-in-1 buffer/file as instructed to get a nice shiny finish on your natural nail.
Q: Can I use gel polish as a strengthening nail enhancement on my natural nails?
A: For sure use a minimum of 2 coats and maximum of 4 coats so the gel polish doesn’t become too rigid and chip away quicker. In most cases this will add the equivalent thickness of your existing nail, which will offer moderate strengthening to a natural nail. The Silk Gel polish is designed for adding colour rather than adding strength.
Q: Where should I store my kit when not in use?
A: Store away from excessive heat, direct sunlight or extreme cold.
Q: What are some tips for how to extend the life of my painted gel nails?
• Use rubber gloves when washing up, gardening, using abrasives or solvents and if you are doing repetitive actions that wear the ends of your nails, as this can wear away the corners of your polish.• Keep away from extreme heat, eg: fires, radiant heaters, BBQ’s.• Do not file any part of your nail once you have applied your gel polish, filing and or shortening your nails will take the gel edge off which will allow premature chipping on the free edge.• Keep your nails away from solvents such as acetone, methylated spirits etc as these will dull and perish the gel polish.
Q: Can I use my gel polish for other art endeavours such as on jewellery, fired pottery, ornaments etc?
A: Yes, as long as it fits under the UV LED lamp you are good to go. Results will vary and the life of the item/ artwork is not guaranteed.
